Planetary Sensing in the City is a seminar about AI, planetary sensing, and posthuman urbanism. The seminar invites colleagues from across CSM to explore opportunities for research, teaching, and strategy around emerging technologies. The lecture (June 28th) and seminar (June 30th) aims to expand questions of climate and social responsibility from individual action towards a more planetary and posthuman framework, considering how intelligent infrastructures and machine sensing technologies transform contexts for human and nonhuman perception, life, and organization.
The seminar is organized by John Wollaston (CSM Digital & Emerging Technologies), Stefan Sloneczny (CSM Digital Innovation), and Stephanie Sherman (CSM MA Narrative Environments), and is funded by the Creative Action Fund / Professional Development fund.
Planetary Sensing in the City consists of two parts. The first is a lecture by Benjamin Bratton entitled "After Alignment: Orienting Synthetic Intelligence Beyond Human Reflection" at 6pm on Wednesday June 28th, with a reception to follow. The second part of the program is a full-day seminar on Friday June 30th at CSM, bringing together staff, HPLs, PhD students and recent MA graduates to investigate shared interests in these topics (participation hours are paid for non-staff participants). The seminar will map areas of enquiry and identify content opportunities for research grants, innovation strategy, and curricular collaborations.
